6 Brotherton Monday 4th January - Maths

 Good morning 6 Brotherton,

In maths this week we will be moving onto addition using the column addition method.

You should be familiar with this method of addition and it is a very quick written method you can use to add larger numbers that are too tricky to work out in your head.

This can be very tricky to explain and understand without the use of visuals, so please follow the link below and watch the clips. Two key things to remember:

1) The numbers in your columns must be aligned!

2) We regroup or exchange 10 ones for 1 ten, 10 tens for 1 hundred etc and we show this by carrying to the next column.

Then, I would like you to put this into practice by completing the worksheet below:

If you have any questions on the maths or literacy work, please comment below or I am available at the year 6 email address, which is:

year6.year6@hovingham.org

Take care,

Miss Freeman
